2009 Mako 1901 Inshore – Mercury Optimax 115 (2-Stroke) – Alum Trailer
Solid, no-nonsense 19’ inshore hull from Mako Boats’s pre-Bass Pro-era. This is the 1901 Inshore—known for a heavier layup than most boats in this class, which gives it a noticeably better ride in chop and a more planted feel at rest.
Hull tracks well, doesn’t get pushed around easily, and stays predictable when the bay gets sloppy. Draft is still shallow enough for backwater use, but it’s not a one-dimensional flats skiff—you can run outside on the right days without getting beat up.
Powered by a Mercury Marine Optimax 115 (direct-injected 2-stroke). Strong midrange torque, lighter than a comparable 4-stroke, and more efficient than older carb motors. This setup planes quickly and cruises comfortably, with top end typically in the low/mid-40s depending on load.
Engine has ~285 hours
Maintenance done annually – not a neglected motor.
Layout is simple and functional:
Large forward casting deck
Good in-deck storage for rods, tackle, and gear
Open cockpit with plenty of usable space
Higher gunwales than most technical skiffs—adds confidence with family or in rougher water
Includes an aluminum trailer—lighter, corrosion-resistant, and ideal for South Florida use.
Bottom line:
This isn’t a dedicated skinny-water poling skiff. It’s a versatile inshore boat that can handle flats, bay, and nearshore without compromise. If you want a tougher 19’ platform that rides better than most bay boats in this size range, the 1901 is worth a look.
