Lake Texoma is a deep water reservoir and is one of the largest reservoirs in the United States, with deep channels formed by the Red River from the west and the Washita River from the north. With the surface area approximately 89,000 acres, and 580 of miles of shoreline, the lake attracts around 6 million visitors a year.
In 1944 the United States Army Corps of Engineers completed the Denison Dam and Lake Texoma was created through the Damming up of the Red River for flood control, hydropower and water supply. As the Lake filled one year after the construction of the Dam, a once booming community, the town of Hagerman, was submerged under its waters. It wasn't until much later that the lake was used for recreational purposes.
Lake Texoma offers a myriad of amenities and attractions that would suit any nature lover and water enthusiast. The fishing on Lake Texoma is considered one of the best in the Southwest, and is a hotspot for premier striped bass.
