The History of Lake Tahoe.

Gracefully clocking in at 2 million years old, it was commonly believed that Lake Tahoe had its origins from volcanic eruptions, but was actually formed by faulting (fractures in the Earth’s crust allowing land to rise and sink ) around 25 million years ago! Now it is home to around 53,000 long term residents, with this number surging during the peak season up to 300,000 people.

Even though Lake Tahoe has attractions all year round, Summer is the Lake’s busiest season. Along with plenty of boating and personal watercraft activities, there is also hiking, cycling and exploring the many mountainous trails around the Lake.

Lake Tahoe’s water consistently stays pretty chilly but never freezes over because of its extreme depth, making it an ideal spot for activities like boating and fishing in the summer months when temperatures can get up to 60 degrees in shallower parts.

Lake Tahoe is a great place for boating and relaxation with plenty of amenities to keep you busy year-round! The marinas around this sparkling natural asset offer everything from boat sales or rentals, and to suit any taste or budget. There are a variety of boat launches all around the lake, and although you do need an In and Out pass to launch your boat or watercraft, it is pretty easy to acquire, depending on the inspection of your vessel. There are also boat tours around the lake and many events for boat lovers to enjoy. Lake Tahoe really is a clear, blue gem in the California desert!
