Lake Norman is
located in North Carolina.

Located 20 miles north of Charlotte, Lake Norman is the largest man-made body of freshwater in North Carolina. Completed in 1964 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam of Duke Energy, it is fed by the Catawba River and drains into Mountain Island Lake.
With around 520 miles of shoreline, it is the perfect place to go for a small trip or quick getaway any time of the year.

 

The History of Lake Norman.

The transformation of Lake Norman began over 60 years ago. People had lived, worked and died around this area before it was bought by the Duke Power Company to build their hydroelectric dam creating electricity for North Carolina's growing economy In the latter half of the 1800's and shut down in the 1950's for the formation of the lake, the Long Island Cotton Mill and Mill Village's ruins remain resting at the lake bottom today!
