Located in the northeastern portion of the U.S. state of New York, Lake George lies within the upper region of the Great Appalachian Valley and at the southeast base of the Adirondack Mountains. This beautiful and scenic long, narrow lake is fondly referred to as “ The Queen of American Lakes' ' It stretches 32 miles, is 3 miles wide at its widest point, and reaches depths of nearly 200 feet. According to the Lake George Association, the lake as we know it was formed around 10-12,000 years ago.

The History of Lake George.

There has always been a debate on who first discovered the Lake, some say Samuel de Champlain in the early 1600s, and others, Father Isaac Jogues in the 1640s. Either way, it was Father Jogues that named the lake "Lac Du Saint Sacrement" in May of 1646. 110 years later the French and Indians began their 7 year war as the French tried to invade the British Colonial territory. The region was crucial for the British to secure since the French dominated Canada and areas to the north.

In September 1755, a series of three engagements between British and French forces broke out at the southern end of Lake George. These would collectively come to be known as the Battle of Lake George, which is commonly considered to be one of the first major victories for the British against the French.
