This started in 1931 with a candle-lit boat parade, and now spans 8 days, featuring concerts, fireworks, parades, athletic events, beach activities, street vendors, and more.

These events draw crowds not just regionally, but from across the country. During peak times, the lake transforms into a bustling hub of activity, attracting visitors eager to experience the festivities.

Lake Charlevoix is a great destination for fishing. Here you can find Black Crappie, Bluegill, Brown Trout, Channel Catfish, Cisco, Lake Whitefish, Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Rainbow Trout, Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Yellow Perch. Please bear in mind that you will need a valid Michigan fishing license, this can be purchased online or at local bait and tackle shops.

Exploring Lake Charlevoix

For those interested in literary history, the area around Lake Charlevoix holds special significance. A young Ernest Hemingway spent his first 22 summers here. Several Hemingway landmarks can be found nearby, making this a great destination for fans of the famous author.

For a truly Charlevoix experience, take a leisurely trip through the narrows on the historic Ironton Ferry. It may not be fast, but it's a cherished tradition that's not to be missed.

Try and visit The landing, a fabulous waterfront restaurant. Here you can enjoy their Lobster roll (pricey but well worth it!) and their fresh perch sandwich with beach fries. They are only open during the summer months, so please check before you visit.
