Classic Bristol 35 Sloop! Yanmar Diesel! 400W Solar! Restoration Opportunity!
This 1973 Bristol 35 offers an opportunity to restore a classic American cruising sailboat with traditional lines, a full keel, diesel auxiliary power, and a practical cruising layout.
Built by Bristol Yachts, this fiberglass sloop features a keel-hung rudder, aft cockpit, wheel steering, and a deck-stepped aluminum mast supported by a compression post.
The sailing inventory includes a Dacron mainsail, approximately 120% genoa, ProFurl roller furling, Lewmar winches, mainsheet traveler, and conventional running and standing rigging. The sails were previously restitched, according to earlier listing information.
A stainless steel stern arch supports the solar installation and davits. The owner reports installing approximately 400 watts of solar panels and purchasing four batteries, including one engine-starting battery and three house batteries, approximately two years ago.
Navigation equipment includes a Garmin chartplotter, Standard Horizon VHF radio, depth instrumentation, compass, and wheel-mounted autopilot.
Below deck, the traditional interior offers opposing salon settees, teak cabinetry, a galley, enclosed head with shower, and forward V-berth.
The galley includes refrigeration, a propane stove, and stainless steel sink. The owner reports replacing the propane tanks and stove supply lines approximately two years ago.
Auxiliary propulsion is provided by a Yanmar three-cylinder diesel engine. During a February 2023 marine survey, the engine started and operated satisfactorily during a sea trial, reaching 3,400 RPM and maintaining operating temperature.
The owner subsequently repaired an engine leak and reports replacing the cutless bearing. The engine has not been operated recently, and its present mechanical condition requires verification.
The owner also reports reinforcing the bottom of the mast compression post and repairing fiberglass in the anchor box.
This Bristol is currently stored on the hard at Green Cove Springs Marina in Florida. According to the owner, she was last sailed and the engine last operated approximately two years ago.
A February 2023 marine survey documented several maintenance and structural concerns, including localized deck core deterioration, elevated deck moisture readings, signs of water intrusion around the chainplates, and deflection at the mast compression post. The owner confirms that the chainplates and engine mounts have not been addressed.
The boat requires restoration and recommissioning before returning to service. The previous survey is available for review, and prospective buyers are encouraged to obtain independent inspections to evaluate her current condition.
For someone who appreciates traditional sailboat construction and is prepared to undertake a restoration project, this Bristol 35 offers an established cruising design with existing sailing, navigation, and auxiliary equipment.
