Bruce King-designed Ericson 38 with solar, watermaker, A/C, Raymarine electronics, 2021 standing rigging, 2018 sails!
Step aboard this well-equipped 1981 Ericson 38, a Bruce King-designed cruiser that continues to earn respect for its excellent sailing characteristics, comfortable accommodations, and proven offshore capability. The shoal-draft configuration makes her especially appealing for exploring Florida's coastal waters, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Bahamas while still delivering the balanced performance that made the Ericson 38 a favorite among experienced sailors.
This Ericson has been thoughtfully outfitted for extended cruising with approximately 555 watts of solar, a Katadyn Power Survivor 40 watermaker, Marine Air Systems 16,000 BTU reverse-cycle air conditioning, Heart Interface inverter/charger, shore power, standing rigging replaced in 2022, Mack Sails mainsail with two reef points and 135% genoa (2018), all new running rigging (2018), Dutchman flaking system, SeaFurl roller furler, Garhauer rigid boom vang, rebuilt Navtec hydraulic backstay, and an impressive navigation package featuring Raymarine multifunction electronics, Raymarine autopilot, JRC radar, Standard Horizon AIS/VHF, and Icom HF radio.
The spacious cockpit features pedestal steering, dodger, bimini, wide side decks, manual windlass, dinghy davits, swim ladder, and all control lines led aft to the cockpit, making the boat well suited for short-handed or solo sailing.
Below deck, the warm teak interior offers a private forward stateroom, comfortable salon, aft quarter berth, enclosed wet head, navigation station, and a well-equipped galley with refrigeration, propane stove and oven, pressure water, and hot water.
The current owner reports successfully completing a 1,000+ mile voyage from the Chesapeake Bay to the Bahamas and back to Jacksonville in 2024, demonstrating this classic cruiser remains a capable passagemaker. A professional pre-purchase survey completed in 2023 rated the vessel above average for her age.
