'82 Monk 36 Tri-Cabin Trawler. Classic Ed Monk design, efficient Lehman 120 diesel, bow thruster & enclosed bridge. Premier West Coast liveaboard!
This 1982 Monk 36 Trawler is an example of Ed Monk Jr.'s classic tri-cabin design, configured for long-range Pacific coastal cruising, navigating the Inside Passage, or living comfortably aboard. Built with a solid fiberglass hull featuring simulated lapstrake styling and an encapsulated full-protection keel that safeguards the propeller and rudder, this semi-displacement vessel delivers stability and predictable handling across a variety of sea conditions. Power is provided by a single, naturally aspirated Lehman 120 marine diesel engine connected to a traditional inboard shaft drive. This propulsion setup burns between 1.5 and 2.5 gallons of fuel per hour at a standard 7-knot cruising speed. Maneuverability in tight spaces, locks, and marinas is enhanced by a previously installed bow thruster.
The exterior includes a flybridge with a full canvas enclosure, a radar mast equipped with a Raymarine dome, a stern swim platform with transom-mounted dinghy davits, and traditional teak cap rails. The interior features a galley-up layout on the main deck, positioning the galley alongside the main salon living area. This space includes the lower helm station, which features a starboard sliding pilot door for quick access to the deck during docking maneuvers. The two-stateroom, tri-cabin arrangement provides separation and privacy between accommodation spaces. The forward guest stateroom consists of a traditional V-berth with an adjacent day head. The aft master stateroom includes a double berth, built-in teak cabinetry for storage, and an attached en-suite head equipped with a small bathtub.
